Welcome to the Centre for International Central Bank Dialogue
CBDC – Current Aspects and Future Challenges, from 19.05.2027 till 21.05.2027 in Frankfurt

Objective

In recent years, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) have been at the forefront of discussions about the future of payment systems. The Eurosystem is currently preparing for the potential launch of a digital euro.

As a novel form of public money, a retail CBDC could not only drive innovation in the payments sector but also provide a stable foundation for the digital era and enhance competition within the payment landscape. In collaboration with its Eurosystem partners, the Bundesbank is exploring the optimal design for the digital euro to meet the growing demand for digital currency.

This course will familiarise participants with the design features of the forthcoming digital euro and explore the rationale, use cases, benefits, and potential risks associated with CBDCs. Additionally, the course will cover developments in wholesale CBDC and examine the role of stablecoins and cryptocurrencies.

The panel will provide a platform for exchanging experiences and sharing information. All attendees are expected to actively engage in discussions and are encouraged to contribute, for example by giving presentations on relevant topics from their national perspective.
