Welcome to the Centre for International Central Bank Dialogue
Internal Audit Functions at Central Banks, from 23.11.2027 till 25.11.2027 in Frankfurt
Objective
An effective and risk-oriented internal audit function is an essential part of the responsible management of central banks. It supports the oversight of governance, risk and control systems, thus making an important contribution to the stability and integrity of central bank business processes.
The course provides a practice-oriented overview of current developments and challenges facing internal audit functions at central banks. It starts with fundamental aspects such as reporting lines to the Executive Board, internal and external quality assurance, interconnectedness with the ERM Office, organisational and resource issues, and formats for interaction with stakeholders.
An overview of a contemporary audit universe then shows how it is structured as a basis for planning, conducting, and documenting audit engagements. Keywords such as risk methodology, audit strategy, IIA topical requirements and audit tools and software are also taken into account here.
The audit topics “Banking supervision and financial stability” and “Data and analysis” are two main areas of expertise. The audit units responsible at the Deutsche Bundesbank will present a typical audit procedure and special features of the respective area. This is complemented by shorter contributions on other selected topics. These include, for example, BCM, compliance, payments, digital currencies, cybersecurity, corporate governance and third-party risk.
In addition, the course explicitly provides space for the exchange of experience and, in order to facilitate a useful discussion, also includes short contributions from the group of participants.
Target group
The course is primarily aimed at examiners and managers involved in internal audit activities. It is also suitable for participants with less than senior- or expert-level experience, provided they have a basic understanding of internal audit. Although the course focuses on topics related to third-line functions, representatives of audit and control bodies from second-line functions are equally welcome.
