Objective
This intermediate course is tailored for officials from central banks and supervisory authorities with climate expertise in strategy, analysis, or coordination roles, who seek to deepen their expertise on climate, nature, and broader sustainability challenges from a strategic perspective. Participants will explore in depth how climate change and nature loss present economic and financial risks, and how central banks are integrating these considerations into their strategies, analytical frameworks, policy development, and supervisory practices.
The programme delivers a comprehensive and forward-looking curriculum, ideal for those with existing climate-risk knowledge who wish to expand their understanding. For those seeking an introductory overview, please refer to our “Understanding Climate Risk” course.
The course content follows the recommendations of the Network for Greening the Financial System’s (NGFS) "Sustainability Training Reference Guide" (STaR Guide), available via the Climate Training Alliance (CTA) Portal. The STaR Guide offers a structured approach for central banks and financial supervisors to systematically build capacity in climate-related and environmental domains - an essential step in accelerating the development of expertise of the NGFS community.

- The global policy toolkit: an overview of policy measures and tools affecting the environment in which central banks and supervisory authorities operate
- Sustainability within central banks:Lessons from reporting, data management, and sustainable cash handling.

This course is designed for junior and senior experts, as well as middle-management officials in central banks or supervisory authorities, who are involved in economic analysis, international relations, monetary policy, or strategic planning. It is particularly suited for professionals addressing the multifaceted challenges of climate, nature, and sustainability, and who wish to broaden their expertise across the spectrum of climate-risk and sustainability-related issues.
